Where does the distinction between private and sworn translation lie?

The former includes those translations not requiring authentication by the Buenos Aires city Sworn Translators’ Association (CTPCBA), and therefore not being legally binding.

Sworn translations instead, are those held as legally binding by national or international entities whenever duly signed by a sworn translator registered with the CTPCBA, which certifies the signature of the relevant translator as belonging to a registered translator and further verifies such signature to match the one appearing on the CTPCBA’s records. As an illustration, some of the document types requiring sworn translation encompass the following: birth/marriage/death certificates, passports, powers of attorney, letters rogatory, among many others.

How are technical translations distinguished from non-technical ones?

TECHNICAL translations are those which feature a specific level of technicism, thus requiring more in-depth terminology research. For illustration purposes, translation jobs involving such theme areas as: Medicine, Accountancy, Agriculture and Technology, among others, are deemed as technical translations. On the other hand, NON-TECHNICAL translations are those dealing with general themes and featuring non-specific terminology.

Where does the difference between Translation and Interpretation lie?

Translation consists in the written reproduction of a text drafted in a certain language (source language) onto a different one (target language).

Instead, interpretation stands as the ORAL TRANSLATION performed by a professional interpreter, which enables effective communication and understanding among people speaking different languages.
